Laikipia University on 24th September 2026 hosted members of the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Education for a public participation forum on six proposed education Bills.
The visiting delegation comprised Hon. Nabii Nabwera Daraja, MP (Lugari), Hon. Mary Emaase Otucho, MP (Teso South), Hon. (Prof.) Phylis Jepkemoi Bartoo, MP (Moiben), and Hon. Peter Ochieng Orero, MP (Kibra), all members of the Departmental Committee on Education.
Ahead of the public participation forum, the legislators paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kibett Rotich, who was accompanied by members of University Management. Their discussions focused on the development of the University, particularly the need for adequate infrastructure and a conducive learning environment for students.
The delegation later toured the University's ongoing classroom construction project, which is nearing completion. During the engagement, the legislators expressed support for efforts to secure additional funding towards the completion of the project and further development of the University.
The public participation forum provided staff, students and other stakeholders an opportunity to present their views on the proposed education legislation. The engagement was lively and constructive, reflecting the important role of public participation in shaping Kenya's education sector.
Laikipia University appreciates the Committee for choosing the University as a platform for this important national engagement and for taking time to interact with the University community and gain first-hand appreciation of its development priorities.
