MOU

Laikipia University has strengthened its commitment to quality education, student well-being and community development following the signing of two strategic Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) on Monday, 26th October 2026.

The agreements, signed during a colourful ceremony at the University, bring together local and international partners in a shared commitment to advancing health sciences education, mental health awareness, professional development and community wellness.

The first, a bilateral MoU between Laikipia University and the International Centre for Global Practice (IC Global), focuses on collaboration through the University's School of Health Sciences and Sports.

The second, a tripartite MoU involving Laikipia University, the Laikipia University Alumni Association and Goldenlife Victors Mental Health Hospital and Rehabilitation Centre, seeks to strengthen youth wellness, mental health recovery and student support services.

The visiting delegation was received by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kibett Rotich, during a courtesy call before proceeding to the signing ceremony.

The delegation included representatives of IC Global, Dr. Vikal and Dr. Tejas Motivaras; Dr. Joe Lenai from the Ministry of Health; Dr. Albert Wagura Taiti, County Executive Committee Member for Health Services, Laikipia County Government; Ms. Jamila Agenla, Director of Goldenlife Victors Rehabilitation Centre; and Jessy Ndegwa, Chairperson of the Laikipia University Alumni Association. A local government administrator was also present.

The ceremony was attended by senior University management officials, Deans of Schools, lecturers and student representatives, reflecting the institution's collective commitment to the success of the partnerships.

Expanding Opportunities in Health Sciences and Professional Development

The collaboration with IC Global presents an opportunity to strengthen the University's engagement in health sciences through knowledge exchange, professional training, research collaboration and exposure to international practices.

The partnership is expected to create avenues for practical learning, capacity building and the development of skills relevant to emerging healthcare needs.

Beyond academic advancement, such collaborations are important in preparing graduates for a competitive labour market, supporting innovation and enhancing their readiness to contribute meaningfully to Kenya's healthcare sector.

Putting Student Mental Health and Well-being at the Centre

The tripartite agreement marks an important step towards strengthening mental health awareness, early intervention, rehabilitation support and student wellness initiatives.

University life presents young people with opportunities for personal growth, but also challenges associated with academic pressure, social adjustment, financial difficulties and emotional well-being.

Through collaboration with Goldenlife Victors Mental Health Hospital and Rehabilitation Centre and the Alumni Association, the University seeks to strengthen access to mental wellness education, appropriate professional support and referral pathways.

The partnership also presents opportunities for preventive programmes, mentorship, community outreach and initiatives that encourage young people to seek help without fear of stigma.

The involvement of the Alumni Association adds an important dimension by connecting former students with initiatives that support the welfare and development of current students.

Strengthening the National Health and Wellness Agenda

The participation of representatives from the Ministry of Health and the Laikipia County Government highlighted the importance of collaboration between universities, healthcare institutions and public agencies.

Such partnerships have the potential to contribute to national priorities in mental health promotion, preventive healthcare, youth empowerment and human resource development.

By connecting academic knowledge with professional practice and community needs, the initiatives could support skills development, employment readiness, entrepreneurship and wider access to health education.

They also offer opportunities for students and professionals to participate in research, outreach and community-based programmes that respond to real health and social challenges.

Commitment to Implementation

Speaking during the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kibett Rotich appreciated the visiting delegation and partners for their dedication to building meaningful institutional relationships.

He reaffirmed Laikipia University's commitment to implementing the signed agreements, emphasizing the importance of translating partnerships into practical programmes that benefit students, staff and the wider community.

The two MoUs represent an important step in strengthening the University's contribution to education, health and societal transformation.

As Laikipia University continues to expand its partnerships locally and internationally, the focus remains on creating opportunities that enrich learning, support student welfare and contribute to national development.
