LU-KNCHR Joint Human Rights Training for County Governments

Laikipia University and Kenya National Commission of Human Rights, (KNCHR) have jointly developed a programme based on ‘Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ECOSOCS)  for County Governments’ in which the training of county employees on human rights based approach to service delivery will be anchored.

Prof. Wanjiku Chiuri- the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics & Research) expressed the university’s appreciation for having been chosen by KNCHR to spearhead the training. She is positive that the University through the Directorate of External Linkages & Collaborations will deliver on its part towards this objective. Prof. Chiuri reiterated on the efforts towards growing the Center for Human Rights indicating that the University Management had since approved sabbatical placement for Prof. Gutto, a renowned scholar in the area of Human Rights.

Dr. Mogesa - Chairman, KNCHR applauded the continued collaboration between the two institutions noting that the same needed to be up scaled for mutual benefit of the institutions and the Kenyan citizens. He particularly singled out issues of joint efforts towards resource mobilization and implementation of findings from the past and upcoming joint research and publications. According to Dr. Mogesa, Laikipia University is the best institution to jointly work with towards the ECOSOCS agenda for County Governments. He committed to push this agenda to the Council of Governors in order to ensure that this training is actualized.
