LU Centre for Human Rights Workshop on 7th April 2019

Laikipia University Center for Human Rights organised a workshop in Naivasha on 7 April 2019. The theme of the workshop was ‘Spreading message of peace, justice and the rule of law’.

Among the keynote speakers were: Prof. Chiuri - Deputy Vice Chancellor (A&R), Dr. Ken Nyaundi -LU Council Chairman, Dr. Bernard Mogesa - KNCHR CEO and LU members of staff.

 The following topics were discussed:

  • Access to Justice in the Human Rights Context - Dr.Bernard Mogesa
  • Categories of Human Rights - Prof. Yieke
  • Ethnic Discourse in Human Rights - Prof. Ogola
  • Balancing Competing Human Rights Interests at Community Setting - Dr.Ken Nyaundi

The workshop was sponsored by the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR), Manco Advocates and International Commission of Jurists (ICJ).The day-long workshop focused on ‘access to justice. In attendance also were Rongo University Students.  The participants were urged to think critically where human Rights begin and end. There is need for institutions of higher learning to reflect on how to express their rights in a way that is not destructive and as the students express their different opinions they should be careful not to jeopardize the rights of other.
