Access to Information and Public Complaints Handling Training Conducted by CAJ on 19th October 2021

Laikipia University held a training on Access to Information and Public Complaints Handling on 19th October, 2021 at Mandela Hall. The training was organized by the Directorate of Planning and Performance Management (DPPM) and was attended by Deans of Schools, Chairpersons of Departments, Examination Officers, Heads of Departments, Performance Contract Champions, Staff and Student Union Leaders. It was conducted by Mr. Kojo Owino, a Legal Officer and Abdi Ahmed, Senior Research Officer from the office of Commission on Administrative Justice (Ombudsman Kenya).

The training was officially opened by Prof. Isaac Ochieng, the Ag. Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration, Finance & Planning)/ Chair Laikipia University Access to Information and Public Complaints Management Committee. He underscored the importance of ensuring provision of quality services to the University customers. The DVC elaborated that the University has an Access to Information and Public Complaints Management Policy; and Complaints Resolution Mechanism to assist on prompt resolution of complaints. That the University encourages customers to exploit the reporting mechanisms that include mobile number, email, face to face reporting to the Chair or DPPM. The Director DPPM who officially closed the, meeting, emphasized on the importance of Access to Information, maintaining complaints and compliments register, solving issues raised by customers and timely reporting to the Directorate. The participants actively asked questions and provided constructive contributions during the plenary sessions.
